sex talk

Communication could be very sexist.

Everyday we see different forms of communication wherein either the females or males (yes communication could be harsh to men too) are being belittled vulgarly or not. However, it is sad to say that this happens to women more often.
Women, most of the time, are the ones who are being violated by communication. In fact, I think, many forms or things related to communication favor the men. For example, the word ‘history’, why does it have to be ‘history’? I wonder why they did not make it ‘herstory’ or ‘hirstory’. In this way, the word would not be sexist. I know that the ‘his’ in this word pertains to humankind, and I do not have anything against this word, but I just think that it would be better if words do not have any biases.
I remember that even Veronica and Betty in Archie comics are talking about these biases in language. They were wondering why foods are given male names, such as chicken ala king. When I came across that, different words came rushing to my head; and I realized that yes, many words are in fact patriarchal.
This is not my main concern though, I am more concerned with the forms of communication that reduce women into mere objects. It seems that it has been a custom for communicators to use women as a tool in communication. In addition, women are marginalized by the different kinds of communication.
Communication should not be biased or should not be used in any form that would hurt people, whatever gender they have. Communication should be used in promoting, developing and bridging gaps between people.
